Star trails in the clear sky over Lassen Volcanic National Park. I've been trying to take a successful star trails shot for years. The opportunities are so few and far between because of the light pollution around the cities I've lived in. This shot was set up in the pitch dark; I couldn't even see what I was pointing the camera at so it was really a long shot. It was far too cold to keep crawling in and out of the tent for other attempts so this was my only exposure. I left the shutter open for a full hour and, while not perfect, I was really happy with the outcome.
