Last week, along with my wife, brother, and sister-in-law, I hiked to the peak of Clouds Rest in Yosemite. As one of the highest points directly overlooking the valley it promised amazing views of Half Dome. Unfortunately when got up there the smoke in the air from a controlled fire was so thick we could barely see anything. I used a polarizer and boosted the contrast on my shot but the result was still far from expected. I'm looking on the bright side, however, as I got an atmospheric photo, different from most people's, and at least the smoke wasn't from a wildfire. We spent the rest of the trip camping at Tuolumne Meadows where the smoky atmosphere gave the place a sunset feel in the middle of the afternoon. The photo of me setting up my camera below was taken by my brother.
