AppDirect Yearbook—Spectrum

AppDirect produce an annual yearbook for their employees to tell the story of the company's development and capture the experience of working there. Collaborating with a team of five I helped create the Spectrum edition with conceptual contributions and layout design.

I designed a look-book of profiles for the New Voices Fellowship at the Aspen Institute, a groundbreaking initiative helping to bring expert voices from the developing world into the global development discussion.

Living Cities

Living Cities is a collaboration of 22 foundations and corporations, collectively investing millions of dollars in funding, in conjunction with expert advice and influence, to re-imagine underinvested neighborhoods and public systems. I created a wide range of materials for Living Cities, from print to digital design.

Before it Gets Dark is the identity system I created for my own Outdoor Photography brand.

Four Paws Studios

Daniel Dietrich is a photographer and cinematographer focused on wildlife and wildlife conservation. I designed the logo for his production arm, Four Paws Studios.

28 Days

28 Days is a new hormonal calendar, meditation practice and art project by conceptual artist Lara Mossler. I designed the identity along with covers for the journal and meditation guide.

Causewayside Church

As Victoria Tollcross and Shettleston Old Parish Church merged in Glasgow to form Causeway Church, I created their new, united identity.

AppDirect Partner Summit

AppDirect is the leading commerce platform for selling cloud services and their four-day conference, Partner Summit, is the premier event in that industry. The 2015 event took place during San Francisco's Fleet Week. Identifying shared themes, we drew inspiration from the air shows that demonstrate an intensity, speed and technical skill-set, I designed the identity, website, environmental graphics, print and marketing collateral, presentation materials, and swag.

AppSmart is the industry-leading standard for IT buying and reselling. I art-directed their identity, and designed their website, along with marketing and presentation materials.

Steel Engineering Limited are one of the largest steel fabricators in Britain. I designed their 'S' marque with inspiration from the shape of a rivet and applied their new identity to a range of collateral.

GCU is an innovative and modern university attracting students from all over the globe. I designed the marketing materials and exhibition system they use to communicate key messages when speaking to potential international students in their home countries.

Ferrari

I worked with Jurist, a high quality lithographer to produce this invitation for a Ferrari driving experience, sponsored by Altria. With inspiration from the event's setting in the Adirondack Mountains I created an unusual multi-fold format with a die-cut car, designed to continually reveal new imagery and information as the user opened the package.

Tidbit

Every effective team shares information from critical memos to lol-cat photos. Tidbit is a communications product, developed by Bureau Blank, making sharing simple and useful with a low-profile interface to take the weight off your email. I designed the Tidbit identity, a playful origami frog, inspired by the tidbits of information hopping from screen to screen.

ClearPlus Identity

ClearPlus is a windshield wiper company who manufacture, distribute and sell their own products internationally. ClearPlus were ready for a brand update to match their growth and, beginning with their identity, I went on to design a full suite of packaging, their website, sales materials, trade booth and stationery.

Heriot Watt University

These images were created as part of a branding pitch for Heriot-Watt University, one of Britain’s top universities for business and industry. With the largest international student cohort of any Scottish university and a curriculum focused on dealing with world issues, we identified the importance of marketing their ‘global’ credentials. I created the concept of a visual language where the ‘swooshes’ would construct a central globe and while ultimately an alternative design was adopted, my Distinctly Global copy writing was successfully integrated across all their marketing materials.

Stephen Duncan is an acclaimed wedding photographer based in the South of England. I understood that when you select a wedding photographer you're placing a lot of trust in someone capturing your big day in a professional and timeless manner. It was these qualities, along with Stephen's mantra of 'relaxed, informal and unobtrusive' I strove to incorporate when designing his identity and marketing materials.

This was a personal project I undertook to record my first year living on the East Coast of America. I completed a photo-a-day project before designing a book called One Year on the East Coast to collect the best images.

North American Limestone Corporation (NALC) is an Indiana-based quarry producing a range of high quality crushed and fine grind limestone products. I designed a suite of packaging for these products with an emphasis on simple, stand-out branding and clear identification.

This guide was created for The University of Edinburgh's International Office which supports staff and students from outside the UK. The design was inspired by flight tags and airport signage.

Shelter

Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity, works to alleviate the distress caused by homelessness and bad housing. The Time to Get a Move In promotion, which I also named, ran at summer festivals to raise awareness of homelessness, while the Advice Online campaign focussed on directing service users to the Shelter website.

Poppyscotland is a veterans charity supporting ex-Servicemen and women and their families. I have designed a number of documents, advertisements and identities to support their campaigns which raise over £2 million each year. I have also created a series of communication materials and newsletters for Veterans Scotland, an association related to Poppyscotland who bring branches of the veterans' community together.

Snacks After Swimming

Snacks After Swimming is an anthology of the best new creative writing in Scotland I designed with Alison Pert. Complete with a photo essay, the book was initiated by The University of Glasgow in conjunction with their Creative Writing course.

This is a bit of a self-indulgent one; the wedding stationery I created when Lynne and I tied the knot. It featured our initials locking together in a heart shape.

Killing The Messenger

I designed the cover for Killing the Messenger, a political thriller by award-winning author, Christopher Wallace.

The Opportunity Agenda

The Opportunity Agenda is a national public interest organization dedicated to expanding equal opportunity for all Americans. Vision, Values and Voice is their social justice communications toolkit, designed to guide advocates through the process of creating a compelling narrative. Infused with comic book references, the website features Helvetika Bold, a superhero with the powerful ability to communicate effectively.

New York Cares is the city's largest volunteer management organization. As they planned improvements to their website, I facilitated UX workshops, established wireframes, designed their pattern library, and delivered mockups for their home page, search pages, and volunteer profiles.

Cities of Service

Cities of Service is a coalition of approximately 200 cities across the United States and around the world committed to volunteer service. The organization grew quickly while incubated at Bloomberg Philanthropies. I designed their identity, website, printed publications and promotional material. Through stakeholder interviews, UX workshops and digital strategy we were able to take their website from concept to production in less than six weeks.

Precious Cargo is a Cultural Olympiad event run by Bradford Museums. The identity and designs, referencing objects in their collections from around the world, were applied to promotional items across a number of exhibitions to attract a young audience.

The Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society promotes awareness of the architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh. I designed a suite of literature and a visual language to carry forward the Mackintosh brand, targeting two distinct markets in tourism and investors.

Silent Sherpa

Silent Sherpa is an Apple Watch app concept for hikers I created while studying User Experience Design at General Assembly. Through user research I defined a persona who hiked in order to avoid technology so directions had to be delivered in the most unobtrusive manner. 

NYU Millennium in Motion

New York University is one of the largest private universities in America. With over 40,000 students attending 18 schools and colleges in five continents, the past fifteen years in particular have seen NYU experience an unprecedented trajectory of excellence. I designed the Millennium in Motion website to showcase these achievements as they move into a new era.
